The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has extended its suspension of all deadlines under the Trademarks Act, Patent Act and Industrial Design Act until May 29, 2020. All deadlines on patent, trademark, and industrial design matters which would have otherwise expired during the period from March 16, 2020 to May 29, 2020 are now effectively extended to Monday June 1, 2020.
Nevertheless, applicants are encouraged by CIPO to file timely responses where possible to avoid a bottleneck when the suspension period ends. CIPO remains open and in operation. However, we are told to expect significant delays in all services as many staff are working from home.
