The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has extended its suspension of all deadlines under the Trademarks Act, Patent Act and Industrial Design Act until July 17, 2020. All deadlines on patent, trademark, and industrial design matters which would have otherwise expired during the period from March 16, 2020 to July 17, 2020 are now effectively extended to Monday July 20, 2020.
Nevertheless, applicants are encouraged by CIPO to file timely responses where possible to avoid a bottleneck when the suspension period ends. CIPO remains open and in operation. However, we are told to expect significant delays in all services as many staff are working from home.
